In line with its policy to raise students’ awareness on the importance of Sports Medicine, the Mauritius Sports Council is continuing with its series of talks in Secondary Schools. The 2nd edition of this activity for this year was held on Wednesday 23 April 2008 from 09h15 to 11h30 at the St. Esprit College, Quatre Bornes in the presence of Mr. Dhiraj Singh Khamajeet, Chairman of the Mauritius Sports Council and Mr. Michel Chang Kye, Chairman Medical / Paramedical Committee of the Sports Council. 175 students attended the talks and were very enthusiastic to hear the resource persons.
The benefits of physical activities on health were presented by Mr. Gerard Requin, Director Pharmaceutical Services, Ministry of Health and Quality of Life, The importance of good nutrition by Mrs Romina Umanee, Nutritionist, Ministry of Health and Quality of Life and the use of ice in the treatment of injuries by Mr. Jean Felix, Physiotherapist.
At the end of the session, a quiz related to sports & health was organized by the Council. Six students answered correctly to the questions and were awarded prizes. The winners are Franco Calisse, Vashish Sonoo, Steven Cunden Pursoty Keshav, Gulshan Choytooa and Davesh Boodhoo.
