Winners of National Sport Award

The Mauritius Sports Council has the responsibility to organise every year the National Sports Awards to bestow recognition to those athletes, coaches and teams who have achieved sports excellence.
The first National Sports Award was organised by the MSC on 17 December 1986. For the first time in the history of sports in Mauritius, a committee, set up by the Mauritius Sports Council, elected the best athletes under 18 as well as the best sportsman and sportswoman of the year 1986 and also elected the sports leader that has contributed the most in the promotion of sports during the year. Mr. Michael Glover, former Minister of Youth and Sports, praised this excellent initiative of the Sports Council by referring to the Physical Education and Sports Act, which stated clearly the objectives which were to recognise the good performance of individuals and collaboration of all who have contributed in the promotion of sports in the country and to reward all the athletes who have excelled in the field of sports. In 1987 the MSC introduced the Sport Journalist Award and the Sport photographer Award.

The National Sports Award, ceremony to reward the best athletes, coaches and teams for the year 2010 was held at La Plantation Resort & Spa, Balaclava,on Monday 20 December 2010 at 18h00 in the presence of Dr. The Hon. Vasant Kumar Bunwaree, Minister of Education and Human Resources , Hon. Satyaprakash Ritoo, Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr. Kris L. Appadoo, Chairman of the Mauritius Sports Council and sponsors and guests from the sports community in Mauritius.

The National Sports Award, ceremony to reward the best athletes, coaches and teams for the year 2009 was held at the Grand Baie International Conference Centre on Sunday 06 December 2009 at 18h30 in the presence of Dr. The Hon Rama Krishna Sithanen, GCSK, Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Finance and Economic Empowerment , Hon. Satyaprakash Ritoo, Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr. Dhiraj Singh Khamajeet, Chairman of the Mauritius Sports Council and sponsors and guests from the sports community in Mauritius.

Dear members of the Sports family, you have in hand what I consider to be a vital communication tool. The aim behind the website is to create a link within the Mauritian Sports Community. It’s also an opportunity for me to pay tribute to all these benevolent who serve our sport, year in and year out. I seize this opportunity to inform all our partners that the Mauritius Sports Council has moved a step forward and that we are now ISO 9001:2008 certified.
Members of the Sports Community, rest assured that the Mauritius Sports Council is doing its utmost to plan, coordinate and promote competitive and healthy recreational sports through financial, administrative and service assistance. These being the MSC vision and objectives.
Without the precious collaboration of each and everyone from the Mauritian Sports family it is impossible for the MSC to achieve its vision and objectives. I graciously thank the Ministry of Youth and Sports, all our stakeholders, and all our sponsors for their fruitful collaboration.
